Um brasileiro morre vítima de acidente de trabalho a cada 4,5 horas, de acordo com um levantamento realizado pelo Observatório Digital de Saúde e Segurança do Trabalho, desenvolvido pelo Ministério Público do Trabalho (MPT) e pela Organização Internacional do Trabalho (OIT). Trabalhadores do setor de transporte rodoviário lideram essa lista e entre eles a maioria das vítimas são homens entre 30 e 34 anos. De forma geral, ocorrem 700 mil acidentes de trabalho por ano.

Segundo cálculos da OIT, por ano o Brasil perde em média 4% do seu Produto Interno Bruto (PIB) com gastos decorrentes da falta de segurança do trabalho. Só no ano passado, essas perdas gerais à economia foram de aproximadamente R$ 264 bilhões. “Vale ressaltar que, pela lei, não são levados em conta somente acidentes que ocorrem no local do trabalho, mas também durante o deslocamento de seus funcionários. Assim como também se leva em consideração doenças desenvolvidas em razão das funções exercidas”, conclui o professor.
