Na tentativa de controlar a inflação no Brasil, o Comitê de Política Monetária (Copom) do Banco Central (BC) elevou a taxa básica de juros Selic de 5,25% para 6,25% ao ano. A informação foi divulgada no relatório emitido pela autoridade monetária no dia 22 de setembro. Trata-se do quinto aumento consecutivo desde março deste ano e a previsão é que novas altas possam acontecer até dezembro.
A decisão de aumentar a Selic em um ponto percentual foi unânime, segundo as informações do Copom. A taxa é o principal mecanismo do BC para controlar a inflação, que vem sendo pressionada pelo aumento dos custos de energia, o encarecimento dos alimentos e a alta do dólar.
Em agosto, o Índice Nacional de Preços ao Consumidor Amplo (IPCA), que mede a inflação oficial do país, chegou a 0,87% – o maior nível para o mês dos últimos 21 anos – conforme dados do Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatística (IBGE). Só este ano, a inflação acumulada está em 5,67%. No acumulado dos últimos 12 meses, de agosto de 2020 a agosto de 2021, o percentual é de 9,68%.
Assim, a decisão do Copom de aumentar a Selic em setembro já era esperada. Na reunião também foi sinalizada a possibilidade de um novo aumento em outubro. Se as expectativas se confirmarem, a taxa Selic pode chegar a 7,5%.
