Um estudo conduzido por pesquisadores da Fundação Oswaldo Cruz (Fiocruz) indicou que o anticoagulante de uso oral Apixaban é eficaz para inibir a replicação do vírus Sars-CoV-2, causador da covid-19. Os resultados foram publicados no periódico científico Journal of Molecular Cell Biology e divulgados hoje (7) pela fundação.
Os pesquisadores constataram que uma enzima importantíssima no processo de replicação do coronavírus tem uma semelhança estrutural com uma substância envolvida no processo de coagulação, o que faz com que o anticoagulante interfira na multiplicação do vírus. A Fiocruz explica que esse tipo de medicamento já era recomendado para prevenir níveis altos de Dímero D, que é o produto final da cascata de coagulação e está relacionado diretamente à covid-19 severa.
“O uso de anticoagulantes ajuda a prevenir a covid severa, e tínhamos a preocupação de descobrir se havia mecanismos adicionais para esse benefício clínico”, explicou à Agência Fiocruz de Notícias um dos autores do estudo, o pesquisador Thiago Moreno Souza, do Centro de Desenvolvimento Tecnológico em Saúde (CDTS/Fiocruz).
“Esse trabalho mostra que sim e descreve como este mecanismo funciona, provando que essa atividade antiviral também pode estar contribuindo, em alguma magnitude, para o benefício clínico que esses pacientes têm”, disse.
