A segurança alimentar dos rebanhos e o fortalecimento da agricultura familiar no Sudoeste baiano receberam um importante incentivo com a distribuição de 100 mil mudas de Palma-Doce Forrageira (Nopalea Cochenillifera) a agricultores e agricultoras familiares. A iniciativa ocorreu nos dias 6 e 7 de julho, em Tremedal, Caetanos e Poções, e faz parte do Projeto Palmas para a Agricultura Familiar, promovido pelo Governo do Estado, através da Secretaria de Estado do Desenvolvimento Rural da Bahia.
As mudas foram entregues a 100 famílias assistidas pelo Projeto Assistência Técnica e Extensão Rural Biomas (Ater Biomas), com o objetivo de ampliar as reservas estratégicas de alimento para os animais durante os períodos de estiagem. Cada família recebeu mil mudas de Palma, uma cultura adaptada ao Semiárido, resistente à seca e à Cochonilha-do-Carmim (Dactylopius Opuntiae) – inseto-praga que afeta principalmente a Palma Forrageira – além de ser rica em nutrientes essenciais para bovinos, caprinos e ovinos. A iniciativa é resultado de uma parceria entre a Secretaria de Estado do Desenvolvimento Rural da Bahia, através da Superintendência de Agricultura Familiar (Suaf/SDR) e da Companhia de Desenvolvimento e Ação Regional (CAR), com a Organização Não Governamental Centro de Convivência e Desenvolvimento Agroecológico do Sudoeste da Bahia (Cedasb).
Além da distribuição das mudas, as famílias também receberam capacitação técnica sobre o cultivo intensivo da Palma Forrageira, conduzida pela Secretaria de Estado do Desenvolvimento Rural da Bahia, através da Superintendência Baiana de Assistência Técnica e Extensão Rural (Bahiater), por meio da equipe de Assistência Técnica e Extensão Rural do Centro de Convivência e Desenvolvimento Agroecológico do Sudoeste da Bahia (Ater/Cedasb).
“Estamos aprimorando as estratégias de convivência com as mudanças climáticas. Nesse contexto, distribuímos Palmas Forrageiras para fortalecer a agricultura familiar, garantindo uma reserva estratégica de alimento para os animais. Além disso, as palmas desempenham um papel importante na captação de Carbono (CO₂), contribuindo para a sustentabilidade ambiental”, destacou o superintendente da Superintendência de Agricultura Familiar, Euzimar Cordeiro Carneiro.
Para Osni Cardoso de Araújo, secretário de Estado do Desenvolvimento Rural da Bahia, assegurar o sustento dos animais é fundamental para a estabilidade das famílias rurais. “Cuidar da alimentação dos rebanhos é cuidar da base da produção no semiárido. A Palma-Doce é uma alternativa estratégica, resistente às mudanças climáticas e essencial para a segurança alimentar. Com ações como essa, o Governo do Estado reafirma seu compromisso com quem vive do campo, garantindo condições reais de produção e permanência no interior”, afirmou.
O Programa Palmas para a Agricultura Familiar é uma estratégia do Governo do Estado, através da de Estado do Desenvolvimento Rural da Bahia , para fortalecer a resiliência da agricultura familiar frente às mudanças climáticas, promovendo alternativas sustentáveis de convivência com o Semiárido e assegurando alimento tanto para os rebanhos quanto para a permanência das famílias no campo.
