SEBASTIÃO MEIRA SANTOS – 01/08/1926
Sebastião Meira Santos, brumadense, nascido em 01/08/1926, conhecido também por Santinho ou Seu Santos. Sebastião é filho de Hermes Santos, escrivão cível, e de Maria da Piedade Meira Santos, Dona Iazinha, do lar, quando solteira assinava Maria da Piedade de Castro Meira. Foi batizado na Igreja Matriz no dia 17 do mês de novembro de 1926 pelo Padre José Dias Ribeiro da Silva sendo padrinhos Rodrigo Virgílio Meira e Francisca Carlota de Castro Meira.
É juntamente com Otávio Cândido de Oliveira, os comerciantes mais antigos em atividade da cidade de Brumado (2011). Seu Santos está atualmente estabelecido na Praça Coronel Francisco de Souza Meira, com o ramo de produtos veterinários e afins, e Seu Otávio com o ramo de ferragens, situado atualmente na Praça Armindo Azevedo.
O casal Hermes Santos e Maria da Piedade Meira Santos tiveram os seguintes filhos: Sebastião Meira Santos, Celídio Meira Santos, Francisca Meira Santos e “Vidinha” que faleceu com um ano de idade.
É um grande pesquisador da árvore genealógica da família Meira, interesse que lhe desperta curiosidades e que ainda está em curso pelas dificuldades circunstanciais. Trata-se de pessoa de grande prestígio na comunidade, gozando de conceito elevado pelas qualidades de honradez, caráter ilibado e moral irrepreensível.
Quando jovem, tinha fama de galanteador. Características físicas: pele bronzeada, alto e de boa aparência, palrador, se expressa com facilidade e coerência. Mantém um relacionamento amigável com as pessoas. Conquistava os corações apaixonados das moças casadoiras, pela gentileza e cordialidade com que as tratava. Cultivava a cortesia e tem modos educados, virtudes que o dignificam.
Com Miguel Isac Neto aprendeu a trabalhar com pedras, especialmente, cristais de rocha, produto de muita aceitação comercial na época, que enviava ou levava para o Rio de Janeiro para comercializar. Tornou-se examinador e comprador no período de 1948 a 1960. Atuava em Condeúba, Oliveira dos Brejinhos, Ibitiara e outras localidades onde existiam garimpos. Com essa finalidade, percorria, ao lado de Feliciano Pereira Santos e outros companheiros, as estradas que levavam a essas localidades e garimpos, cujos caminhos e meios de transportes eram os piores possíveis. Usavam animais para se locomoverem.
Persuadido por amigos políticos, assumiu, no período de 1955 a 1959 pelo PR, no governo do alcaide Armindo dos Santos Azevedo, seu amigo e correligionário, o cargo de vereador. Atuante, considerado um dos melhores políticos do seu tempo, apresentou projetos em benefício da comunidade do município através de suas indicações. Naquela época, o vereador não recebia subsídio pelo serviço prestado na vereança e o fazia por amor à causa de servir bem à comunidade e politicamente apoiar os amigos nessa empreitada política da administração pública municipal.
Em 1957 exerceu a vice-presidência da Câmara em função do impedimento do titular efetivo vereador Wenceslau Rizério de Carvalho, em exercício de prefeito interino pela ausência do titular.
Por vários anos, foi representante comercial da Mesbla S.A, na região, cujo slogan era: “Vende-se desde agulha até avião”, em alusão à variedade de produtos que a empresa oferecia a seus clientes. Seu Santos visitava todo o sertão, num Jipe coberto com capota de aço, enfrentando as dificuldades inerentes às péssimas estradas percorridas, sagrando-se campeão de vendas.
Montou uma loja – A Dois Irmãos – em sociedade com o irmão Celídio, que se afastou para entrar no ramo de farmácia. Santinho continuou, agora, com o comércio – denominado O Bazar – com produtos diversificados que funcionou de 1960 a 1990, na Praça Armindo Azevedo, conhecida como a Loja de Seu Santos. Mudou de ramo e local, estabelecendo-se na Praça Capitão Francisco de Souza Meira, vendendo produtos veterinários e agropecuários. Está em atividade até hoje (2011).
Foi um dos fundadores do Clube Social e Recreativo de Brumado, no qual exerceu vários cargos. É membro do Rotary Club de Brumado. Foi, também, um dos fundadores e presidente da Cooperativa Mista Agropecuária de Brumado (COOPMAB). A assunção à presidência da Cooperativa deu-se por escolha dos sócios que viram nele a pessoa indicada para a recuperação do empreendimento, colocando-o em atividade comercial produtiva. À frente da Cooperativa, fez empréstimo junto ao BNCC com juros subsidiados, com aval pessoal e abasteceu-a de várias mercadorias do ramo agropecuário e afins, tornando-a uma das grandes empresas comerciais da cidade.
Ao término do seu mandato, repassou-o ao seu sucessor, com estoque considerável, sem que houvesse deixado nenhum débito, orgulho de uma realização administrativa profícua, atuando com três funcionários competentes que lhe davam o suporte administrativo necessário. Ele se diz aficionado pelo cooperativismo, porque vê nessa atividade a realização comercial do indivíduo através da produção e distribuição de riquezas pelas cooperativas.
Pela ACRB – Associação dos Criadores da Região de Brumado –, realizou a 1ª Feira de Animais nas instalações da (Funamb), em 1988, com bastante êxito. Foi um dos fundadores desta associação e, na qualidade de presidente, batalhou junto aos diversos sócios para a instalação da primeira usina de beneficiamento de leite da região.
Além de comerciante, Seu Santos é fazendeiro criador de ovinos da raça Bergamasca e bovinos da raça Pardo Suíço, atividades que lhe proporcionam renda e prazer que lhe consomem tempo para os cuidados dos animais e da terra.
Sebastião Meira Santos é uma enciclopédia, é fonte de consultas, porquanto se lembra dos fatos ocorridos em Brumado, sobretudo os mais antigos, só não precisa as datas, mas lembra-se dos fatos, dizendo ter péssima memória para as datas.
Conheceu a Juíza Magna Maria Perpétua Mutti, com quem se casou, em Livramento de Nossa Senhora. Após o casamento, ela passou a assinar Magna Maria Perpétua Pereira Santos. Posteriormente, ela transferiu-se para a cidade de Brumado, elevando-a à categoria de Comarca. Com a Doutora, como Santos se refere à juíza e esposa, teve filha única, Carla Santos, que fora tratada com mimo e carinho pelos pais. Atualmente, Carla exerce a profissão de médica pediatra e lhe proporcionou as netas: Magna Carolina e Alessandra, que lhe dão alegrias incontidas.
Sebastião Meira Santos, pelo envolvimento social e cultural com a cidade, dá a sua parcela de contribuição para o desenvolvimento e progresso de Brumado. Homem de vida e hábitos simples, mas de valor ético inestimável. Uma homenagem ao lídimo cidadão brumadense que merece elogios pela sua atuação nos campos político, social e econômico dando exemplos de cidadania, com dignidade, honradez e seriedade.
O Sr. Santos é uma das poucas reservas morais de Brumado.
Maria Piedade Meira Santos, Iazinha, nasceu em 01/10/1901 e faleceu em 15/06/1976. Hermes Santos nasceu em 28/01/1901 e faleceu em 01/01/1981. Ambos estão enterrados no cemitério municipal Senhor do Bonfim.
