Dia da Consciência negra é destacado pelo presidente em exercício da Assembleia Legislativa da Bahia ( Alba), deputado Zé Raimundo, como um “Dia de luta e celebração à força da nossa cultura! “
Doutor em História, o parlamentar convida a população a comemorar esse dia que inaugura o primeiro feriado nacional dedicado à cultura negra no Brasil: “Esse é um momento de reflexão, em que nós reforçamos nosso compromisso com o combate ao racismo e às desigualdades, e destacamos a importante herança cultural dos povos negros, que inspira um mundo mais justo e igualitário”.
Zé Raimundo lembrou grandes personalidades nacionais e da Bahia que ajudaram a difundir e ampliar a cultura afrobrasileira, como o ex-deputado Luiz Alberto e a ex-ministra da Igualdade Racial, Luiza Bairros, além de artistas como o poeta e compositor Vinícius de Moraes e o músico Baden Powell, que levaram referências do candomblé para a MPB, e os bailarinos King, primeiro negro na Escola de Dança da UFBA, e Clyde Morgan, que levou os movimentos da dança afro para o balé.
Ele destacou ainda que o primeiro feriado nacional é um marco na história de luta pela igualdade racial, mas observou que é resultante de muitas lutas e conquistas da sociedade, sendo o Dia 20 de Novembro já consagrado em mais de mil municípios. Finalmente a data é nacionalizada por decisão do presidente Lula.
