No dia 1º de outubro, celebramos o Dia Nacional do Idoso e o Dia Internacional da Terceira Idade, datas que reforçam a importância de garantir os direitos e o respeito aos mais velhos em nossa sociedade que está envelhecendo e conta cada vez mais com pessoas com idade acima de 60 anos.
De acordo com o Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatística (IBGE) o número de idosos no país mais do que duplicou no período entre os anos de 2000 e 2023. Em pouco mais de duas décadas, a população brasileira com 60 anos ou mais passou de 15,2 milhões para 33 milhões de pessoas.
E essa tendência só aumenta. Ainda segundo o IBGE, em 2070, o país poderá ter mais de um terço da população de idosos, cerca de 75,3 milhões de pessoas o que representará 37,8% do total da população.
No mundo, o número de pessoas com mais de 65 anos deverá ultrapassar os 1,5 bilhão até 2050, segundo dados da ONU.
No Brasil, o Estatuto do Idoso é um importante instrumento de proteção, mas a violência contra o idoso ainda soma mais de 30 mil denúncias registradas só em 2023, no Disque 100.
Além disso, muitos idosos enfrentam dificuldades para se manter financeiramente ativos e sofrem com aposentadorias baixas. Globalmente, 66% dos idosos ainda não têm acesso a uma aposentadoria suficiente para viver com dignidade.
