A Academia Brasileira de Cinema anunciou nesta segunda-feira (15) que o filme O Agente Secreto, de Kléber Mendonça Filho, será o representante brasileiro no Oscar 2026, na categoria Melhor Filme Internacional. 
Protagonizado pelo ator Wagner Moura, o filme é ambientado em 1977, durante a ditadura militar. O longa acompanha Marcelo, um professor de tecnologia que tenta recomeçar a vida no Recife, mas acaba mergulhado em um universo de espionagem e paranoia.
O Agente Secreto, que ainda não estreou em circuito nacional, já levou vários prêmios internacionais, entre eles, o de Melhor Diretor, para Kleber Mendonça Filho, e de Melhor Ator, para Wagner Moura, no Festival de Cannes, uma das mais importantes premiações do cinema mundial.

Ter sido escolhido como o representante brasileiro ao Oscar não significa que o filme já terá garantida uma indicação ao prêmio.
Cada país indica um filme como seu representante para a disputa. A partir dessas indicações, o Oscar faz uma seleção dos filmes que, de fato, vão concorrer ao prêmio mais famoso do cinema mundial. A cerimônia que entregará as estatuetas do Oscar está marcada para acontecer somente no dia 15 de março de 2026.
Os outros filmes que estavam na lista dos pré-selecionados eram Baby, de Marcelo Caetano; Kasa Branca, de Luciano Vidigal; Manas, de Marianna Brennand; O Último Azul, de Gabriel Mascaro e Oeste Outra Vez, de Erico Rassi.
No início deste ano, o Brasil conquistou seu primeiro Oscar, com o filme Ainda Estou Aqui, de Walter Salles, na categoria de Melhor Filme Internacional.
