O Ministério das Relações Exteriores (MRE) informou hoje (26) que receberá R$ 4,6 bilhões para fazer o pagamento de contribuições a organismos internacionais e bancos de fomento. A verba será liberada pelo Ministério da Economia. 
Segundo o Itamaraty, o recurso permitirá pagar quase a totalidade da dívida que o Brasil tem com entidades internacionais e fortalecerá a “posição do país no sistema multilateral e na comunidade internacional”.
“O governo brasileiro não poupou esforços para equacionar a irregularidade crônica de pagamentos e a dívida acumulada desde períodos anteriores. O Itamaraty realizou inúmeras gestões a fim de que fossem assegurados os recursos necessários para fazer frente às obrigações vinculantes assumidas pelo Brasil na seara internacional e internalizadas, com aprovação do Congresso Nacional, ao ordenamento jurídico brasileiro”, declarou o ministério.
No início do mês, o coordenador do Gabinete de Transição, o ex-senador Aloizio Mercadante (PT), afirmou que o governo brasileiro devia R$ 5 bilhões a organismos internacionais, como a Organização das Nações Unidas (ONU), Organização Mundial do Comércio (OMC) e Organização Internacional do Trabalho (OIT). Ainda segundo ele, não havia espaço no Orçamento de 2023 para pagar todas as dívidas.
