Tema da campanha Julho Amarelo, as Hepatites Virais, segundo dados da Secretaria da Saúde do Estado da Bahia (Sesab), foram as responsáveis por mais de 15 mil casos registrados entre os anos de 2015 e 2024, com predominância dos tipos B e C, formas que podem evoluir para Cirrose e Câncer Hepático quando não diagnosticadas e tratadas precocemente.
Segundo o Ministério da Saúde, o Brasil contabilizou 826.292 casos de Hepatites Virais entre 2000 e 2024. Desse total, 41,5% corresponde à Hepatite C e 36,6% à Hepatite B, justamente os tipos com maior potencial de cronificação e complicações graves.
Já a Organização Mundial da Saúde estima que em 2022 ocorreram 2,2 milhões de novas infecções por Hepatites Virais no mundo, com mais de 6 mil pessoas infectadas diariamente.
Apesar dos avanços no diagnóstico e tratamento, muitos casos continuam sendo descobertos tardiamente, em estágios avançados da doença. Por isso, especialistas defendem que o teste para Hepatites passe a fazer parte da rotina preventiva da população adulta, sobretudo entre as pessoas com fatores de risco ou histórico de exposição. Os testes rápidos para Hepatites B e C são oferecidos gratuitamente pelo Sistema Único de Saúde (SUS), contribuindo para o diagnóstico precoce e o início oportuno do tratamento.
Para Antônio Miranda, professor da Afya Salvador e Infectologista, as Hepatites Virais, especialmente as Hepatites B e C, podem permanecer por muitos anos sem causar sintomas perceptíveis. Nesse período, a inflamação do Fígado continua acontecendo de forma lenta e progressiva, muitas vezes sem que a pessoa saiba que está infectada.
“Quando os sinais aparecem, frequentemente a doença já se encontra em estágio mais avançado, com o paciente sofrendo com cansaço persistente, perda de peso e de apetite, mas ainda podem surgir outros sintomas, como pele e olhos amarelados, aumento do abdômen por ascite, inchaço nas pernas, sangramentos e alterações do estado mental, podendo até levar o Fígado a evoluir para um estágio de insuficiência”, explica o especialista, declara o professor da Afya, maior ecossistema de Educação em Saúde do Brasil, e que na Bahia está presente com cursos de graduação em Salvador, Vitória da Conquista, Guanambi e Itabuna, e com cursos de Pós-graduação, através da Afya Educação Médica, em Salvador e Vitória da Conquista.
Ainda segundo o Infectologista, a Hepatite B é transmitida principalmente por relações sexuais desprotegidas, contato com sangue contaminado e transmissão da mãe para o bebê durante a gestação ou parto. Já a do tipo C é transmitida pelo contato com sangue contaminado. Entre os principais fatores de risco estão o compartilhamento de agulhas contaminadas.
Dados do Ministério da Saúde apontam que a Bahia reduziu em 58,7% os óbitos por Hepatite C entre 2014 e 2024, resultado do acesso ao diagnóstico e aos tratamentos antivirais de alta eficácia oferecidos pelo Sistema Único de Saúde (SUS).
No caso da Hepatite B, a vacinação segue sendo a principal forma de prevenção. Já para as do tipo C, que ainda não possuem vacina, o especialista alerta para a importância de campanhas de conscientização, como a campanha Julho Amarelo, para o diagnóstico precoce e tratamento da doença.
“Hoje contamos com exames cada vez mais precisos para identificar precocemente as Hepatites Virais e tratamentos altamente eficazes, especialmente para a Hepatite C, aumentando significativamente as chances de cura e evitando a progressão da doença”, conclui o professor da Afya Salvador.
