Paula Esquerdo desenvolve o Projeto “Transforma Cidades” e envolve alunos do ensino médio em atividades práticas sobre problemas urbanos, estimulando o senso crítico sobre as realidades locais

A mestra em economia, Paula Esquerdo, decidiu usar sua trajetória acadêmica e profissional para despertar o olhar crítico de estudantes do ensino médio sobre as cidades em que vivem. Esse é o objetivo do projeto “Transforma Cidades”, que ganhou força em 2024, mas começou bem antes. Ele vem ganhando espaço em escolas da região sudeste do Brasil, com versões presenciais nas cidades de Além Paraíba, Zona da Mata Mineira, Sapucaia e Carmo, no interior do Estado do Rio de Janeiro, e formato online disponível para todo o país.
Idealizado pela economista, o projeto surgiu da união entre sua curiosidade por entender sua própria cidade por meio de dados e números e a experiência de ministrar palestras em escolas. “Percebi que, embora poucos alunos se interessassem diretamente por Economia, muitos tinham um olhar atento aos problemas da cidade. A partir disso, senti a necessidade de trazer esse tema de forma mais acessível e participativa”, conta a idealizadora.A dinâmica do projeto é flexível e se adapta ao perfil de cada escola. Em algumas turmas, há uma introdução com conceitos de economia. Em outras, a atividade já começa com a proposta prática. Os alunos são divididos em grupos e recebem desafios reais — como desemprego, mobilidade urbana ou infraestrutura — e, juntos, devem pensar em soluções criativas e realistas para os problemas apresentados.
Ao final, cada grupo compartilha sua proposta com os colegas, gerando um espaço de escuta, diálogo e reflexão coletiva. “O mais importante é que não existe resposta certa. O objetivo é justamente provocar o debate e aguçar o olhar dos estudantes para as questões de suas cidades”, explica Paula.Embora os resultados do projeto não sejam imediatamente visíveis, a proposta vai além da sala de aula. “Acredito que estamos plantando uma semente. Pode ser que hoje eles apenas reflitam, mas quem sabe, no futuro, isso não volte de alguma forma? Talvez, como profissionais, eles possam transformar a realidade das cidades onde cresceram”, diz a economista.
