O Ministério da Saúde anunciou na quinta-feira (3) a incorporação do medicamento Deferiprona para o tratamento da sobrecarga de ferro em pacientes com Doença Falciforme no Sistema Único de Saúde (SUS).
Em comunicado, a pasta ressaltou que, a partir dessa decisão, qualquer pessoa que necessite de tratamento para o acúmulo excessivo de ferro, independentemente da causa, poderá acessar todas as opções terapêuticas disponíveis na rede pública.
O Ministério explicou que o excesso de ferro é uma condição comum entre pessoas com Doença Falciforme devido à necessidade de transfusões sanguíneas frequentes, realizadas para controlar crises de dor e outras complicações associadas.
“O acúmulo de ferro no organismo, se não tratado, pode causar sérios danos a órgãos vitais, como Coração, Fígado e Glândulas Endócrinas”, alertou a nota.
Conforme o Ministério da Saúde, a Deferiprona é um Quelante de Ferro, uma substância que se liga ao excesso de ferro no corpo, facilitando sua eliminação pela urina. “Além de reduzir os riscos associados ao acúmulo de ferro, o medicamento possui uma posologia mais favorável em comparação a outras opções, o que facilita a adesão ao tratamento”, apontou a nota.
Anteriormente, o uso da Deferiprona no SUS era restrito a pacientes com Talassemia maior que não podiam usar a Desferroxamina devido a contraindicações, intolerância ou dificuldades de administração.
A Doença Falciforme é uma condição genética e hereditária que provoca uma deformação nos glóbulos vermelhos, que adotam um formato de foice. Essa alteração compromete a circulação sanguínea, resultando em dores intensas, anemias, infecções e complicações em diversos órgãos.
O Ministério da Saúde estima que cerca de 60 mil pessoas no Brasil convivam com a doença, que é mais prevalente entre pessoas negras. O tratamento envolve o controle dos sintomas, a prevenção de complicações e, em muitos casos, transfusões sanguíneas regulares.
