O sequestro sem precedentes na história mundial, da forma como ocorreu, do presidente venezuelano Nicolás Maduro
constitui não só uma intervenção militar num país soberano e independente, em violação dos princípios do direito internacional, mas também um claro aviso para todo o planeta. Um aviso para qualquer líder insubordinado de qualquer país.
Já a 3 de janeiro de 2026, durante uma conferência de imprensa sobre a operação militar e a detenção de Maduro, o
presidente norte-americano, Donald Trump, fez ameaças ao presidente colombiano, Gustavo Petro, afirmando: “Ele faria
bem em ter cuidado”.
Ao mesmo tempo, o Presidente dos EUA deu a entender que Cuba poderia ser um tema de discussão no contexto de uma
política externa mais ampla dos EUA na região, destacando a capacidade de Washington para expandir o seu foco para além da Venezuela.
O secretário de Estado norte-americano, Marco Rubio, chegou a afirmar que o Governo cubano deveria estar preocupado após a detenção de Maduro. Especificamente, disse: “Se eu vivesse em Havana e fosse membro do governo, pelo menos estaria preocupado”, acrescentando que “Cuba é um desastre” e que o país é “governado por homens incompetentes
e depravados”.
A história dos Estados Unidos, além disso, é caracterizada por extensas intervenções imperialistas, tanto territoriais como

Estas batalhas resultaram na morte de cerca de cem pessoas de cada lado.
“Com a vitória de Salvador Allende nas eleições de 4 de Setembro de 1970 no Chile e já Fidel Castro em Cuba, teremos uma ‘sanduíche vermelha’ na América Latina que se tornará inevitavelmente totalmente vermelha”, temia Richard Nixon, e o seu receio não tardou a confirmar-se com os resultados das eleições.
Assim, perante esta desagradável realidade para os Estados Unidos, era necessário encontrar uma solução. E a solução foi encontrada naquela manhã de 11 de setembro de 1973, quando se deu um golpe militar liderado pelo general Augusto Pinochet, com o apoio dos Estados Unidos, mas também do Brasil, cujo regime militar era totalmente amigável e cooperativo com os Estados Unidos. Os golpistas, depois de cercarem e bombardearem o Palácio Presidencial, invadiram-
no. Salvador Allende e os seus colaboradores mais próximos foram mortos após forte resistência.
Os Estados Unidos também invadiram o Panamá em meados de dezembro de 1989, durante a presidência de George
Bush, o mais velho. O objectivo da invasão militar era depor o líder de facto do Panamá, o general Manuel Noriega, que estava acusado pelas autoridades americanas de extorsão e tráfico de droga.

A Santa Sé queixou-se, com razão, ao Presidente Bush, e a guerra musical terminou ao fim de três dias. A 3 de janeiro de
1990, o general aceitou render-se. Mas quais são as razões mais profundas para a invasão militar dos EUA na Venezuela e para a procura de derrube do regime insubordinado existente?
A Venezuela possui, portanto, as maiores reservas comprovadas de petróleo do mundo, totalizando aproximadamente 303,8 mil milhões de barris em 2021. Para efeitos de comparação, os principais países produtores de petróleo apresentam reservas mais reduzidas. Especificamente, a Arábia Saudita possui aproximadamente 267 mil milhões de barris e o Kuwait, 101,5 mil milhões de barris.
Ao mesmo tempo, as reservas comprovadas de gás natural do país ultrapassaram os 5,6 biliões de metros cúbicos em 2021. Note-se, no entanto, que no Hemisfério Ocidental, apenas os Estados Unidos possuíam reservas de maior dimensão.

A solução, portanto, para eles, para os EUA, de forma a garantir a primazia na implacável concorrência internacional, é
o derrube do atual regime venezuelano e a ascensão de um presidente e de um governo absolutamente amigáveis e úteis.
