Com foco no reconhecimento e na valorização da excelência na produção acadêmica, técnica e profissional do Brasil, o Prêmio Jabuti Acadêmico divulgou a lista das obras finalistas da edição de 2025. Entre os livros escolhidos, está “Modernismo Negro”, do escritor e professor da Uesb, Jorge Augusto, lançado pela Editora Segundo Selo e fruto de sua tese de Doutorado.
Concorrendo na categoria “Letras, Linguística e Estudos Literários”, a obra busca pensar o movimento cultural e artístico do modernismo brasileiro a partir das experiências negras e periféricas, dialogando, especialmente, com a obra do escritor Lima Barreto. “O livro é um investimento crítico que busca discutir a literatura de Lima Barreto como uma crítica ao projeto moderno, tal como foi executado no Brasil”, explica Jorge.
Publicado em outubro de 2024, “Modernismo Negro” já foi lançado em diversos eventos pelo país, passando por cidades de Salvador (BA), Natal (RN), São Paulo (SP) e Jequié (BA). A obra conta com textos de intelectuais renomados, como Muniz Sodré, Leda Maria Martins e Henrique Freitas, e foi eleito como um dos lançamentos mais importantes de 2024 pela Revista O Odisseu.
Para ele, a indicação abre espaço para a circulação dos debates que nascem na cultura negra, bem como traz visibilidade para obras publicadas fora do eixo editorial brasileiro. “Ter uma obra entre as finalistas do Prêmio Jabuti é importante demais, sobretudo, para um livro editado na Bahia e que trata de inscrever uma tradição estética negra, no corpus da literatura nacional, em diálogo intenso e rasurante com o centro canônico das letras nacionais que é o Modernismo de 22”, afirma o autor.
Jorge Augusto é poeta e professor da Uesb e do Programa de Pós-Graduação em Literatura e Cultura da Universidade Federal da Bahia (Ufba). Doutor em Literatura, coordena o grupo de pesquisa Perifa, na Uesb, onde desenvolve o projeto “Territórios negros da crítica contemporânea”. Além de “Modernismo Negro”, já publicou “Muvuca” (2024), “O Mapa de Casa” (2023), “Contemporaneidades Periféricas” (2018), entre outros títulos.
Sobre o Prêmio – Em sua 2ª edição, o Prêmio Jabuti Acadêmico é fruto do tradicional Prêmio Jabuti, criado há mais de seis décadas e a maior premiação no campo literário do Brasil. Frente à pulsante produção acadêmica no país, a Câmara Brasileira do Livro, com o apoio da Academia Brasileira de Ciências (ABC) e da Sociedade Brasileira para o Progresso da Ciência (SBPC), lançou o Jabuti Acadêmico.
A premiação é exclusiva para obras acadêmicas, científicas, técnicas e profissionais. Nesta edição, mais de 2 mil obras, de todo país, foram inscritas. Os vencedores serão anunciados no dia 5 de agosto, em cerimônia no Teatro Sérgio Cardoso, em São Paulo (SP). Os melhores trabalhos receberão a estatueta do Jabuti Acadêmico e um prêmio no valor de R$ 5 mil.
