A Agência Nacional de Mineração (ANM) aprovou dois relatórios da mineradora inglesa Brazil Iron que comprovam a existência de jazidas de ferro em Piatã, na Chapada Diamantina. Apesar do sinal verde, a empresa ainda não pode iniciar a extração do minério por não ter autorização do órgão ambiental do Governo baiano.
Há ao menos quatro anos, a área é palco de conflitos por causa de impactos sobre Comunidades Quilombolas locais. Como já mostrou a Repórter Brasil, em matéria publicada em maio do ano passado

Desde outubro, a Brazil Iron é alvo de um processo na Justiça da Inglaterra movido por um Escritório de Advocacia daquele país que representa 80 famílias das Comunidades de Bocaina e Mocó, localizadas na zona rural de Piatã.
