Coleta adequada cresceu de 59,2% em 2000 para 75,7% em 2022

Dados do Censo 2022 divulgados nesta sexta-feira (23) pelo Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatística (IBGE) mostram que 75,7% dos brasileiros tinham, na época da pesquisa, acesso a sistema de esgotamento sanitário adequado, ou seja, ligado à rede coletora ou à fossa séptica, um avanço desde o Censo de 2000.
Em 2000, os brasileiros com acesso a sistema de esgoto adequado somavam 59,2%. Na pesquisa de 2010, eram 64,5%. De acordo com o Censo 2022, os 75,7% são divididos em 62,5% que têm acesso à rede geral, rede pluvial ou fossa ligada à rede e em 13,2% que contam com fossa séptica ou fossa filtro não ligada à rede.
De acordo com o Plano Nacional de Saneamento Básico, as duas modalidades são consideradas adequadas.
“Isso é [calculado com base em] toda a população nacional, o que inclui a população em área rural. O censo ainda não divulgou a situação do domicílio, se ele se localiza em área rural ou urbana, mas a gente sabe que a rede geral não é extensível à área rural, então esse é um dos motivos pelos quais o Plano Nacional de Saneamento considera adequadas outras soluções como a fossa séptica”, explica o pesquisador do IBGE Bruno Perez.
De acordo com o Censo 2022, a proporção de pessoas com acesso a sistema de esgoto adequado cresce de acordo com o tamanho da população do município. Aqueles com até 5 mil habitantes, por exemplo, têm apenas 49,2% de seus moradores com acesso a esgotamento adequado, enquanto os que têm mais de 500 mil somam 91,3% de seus moradores com esgoto adequado. “A gente percebe a presença mais elevada de infraestrutura nos municípios de maior população”, disse Perez.
Apesar de todas as regiões terem apresentado crescimento de 2010 a 2022, ainda persiste a desigualdade entre elas. No Sudeste, a proporção de esgoto adequado passou de 81% para 90,7% e, no Sul, subiu de 62,2% para 83,9%.
No Nordeste, a proporção cresceu de 43,2% para 58,1%, já o Norte passou de 31,1% para 46,4%. O Centro-Oeste foi a região que apresentou o crescimento mais intenso, ao subir de 50,7% para 73,4%.
Os outros 24,3% dos brasileiros que ainda não têm acesso a sistema adequado se dividem entre fossa rudimentar ou buraco (19,4%), vala (1,5%), despejo em rio, lago, córrego ou mar (2%), outra forma (0,7%) ou não tinham banheiro nem sanitário (0,6%).

O Censo 2022 também pesquisou o acesso da população a banheiros. Segundo o levantamento, 97,8% tinham banheiro de uso exclusivo, ou seja, um cômodo com chuveiro e vaso sanitário que é usado apenas pelos que vivem na residência. Em 2010, o percentual era de 92,3%.
Em 2022, os 2,2% que não tinham banheiro de uso exclusivo se dividiam entre aqueles que tinham banheiro de uso compartilhado com outras residências (0,5%), que tinham apenas sanitário ou buraco para dejeções (1,2%) ou que não tinham banheiro nem sanitário (0,6%).
Entre as regiões, o acesso a banheiros de uso exclusivo é maior nas regiões Sudeste (99,8%), Sul (99,7%) e Centro-Oeste (99,3%). No Norte e Nordeste, os percentuais são de 90,5% e 95,3%, respectivamente.
Apesar de ainda terem as menores coberturas, o Norte e Nordeste tiveram grande avanço nos últimos 12 anos, já que, em 2010, eles tinham 75,5% e 83,4% de cobertura de banheiros exclusivos, respectivamente.
O número de residências com dois ou mais banheiros também aumentou no país, ao passar de 28,5% para 33,7% de 2010 para 2022.
