A convivência com um animal de estimação pode tornar a vida mais alegre e saudável. No caso dos gatos, a ciência já comprovou que a espécie ajuda na redução do estresse, manutenção da saúde mental, aumento da imunidade, melhora na saúde cardiovascular, além de contribuir para o aumento da socialização. Contudo, a escolha de cuidar de um felino também envolve muita responsabilidade, comprometimento e dedicação diária.
Às vésperas do início da campanha internacional Abril Laranja, que objetiva conscientizar a população e prevenir contra maus-tratos a animais, o médico veterinário Rodrigo Brito destaca as ações e cuidados essenciais que devem ser adotados para garantir o bem-estar e uma vida saudável e feliz para os gatos. Diferentemente do que muitas pessoas acreditam, a espécie necessita de muito carinho, atenção e tempo de qualidade.
O especialista enumerou os principais cuidados que devem ser incluídos na rotina do animal. Confira:
1. Alimentação adequada: Ofereça uma dieta balanceada e de qualidade, adequada à idade e às necessidades do seu gato.
2. Água fresca: Certifique-se de que seu gato tenha sempre acesso a água limpa e fresca. Verifique se ele tem ingerido a água regularmente, pois muitos animais preferem água corrente. Para atender isso, existem no mercado algumas fontes de baixo custo que você pode colocar em casa.
3. Caixa de areia: Mantenha a caixa de areia limpa e em um local tranquilo. Troque a areia regularmente. Se possível, faça isso diariamente.
4. Veterinário: Leve seu gato ao veterinário para check-ups regulares e vacinas. Esteja atento a sinais de doenças. Somente esse profissional está apto a indicar o que é recomendável fazer e oferecer as melhores condições para seu animal.
5. Higiene: Escove o pelo do seu gato regularmente, especialmente se ele for de pelo longo, e cuide da higiene dental, observando se tem acumulado sujeira em seus dentes.
6. Ambiente seguro: Crie um ambiente seguro, evitando plantas tóxicas e objetos perigosos em sua residência.
7. Exercício e brincadeiras: Proporcione brinquedos e separe um tempo para brincar com o felino a fim de mantê-lo ativo e mentalmente estimulado.
8. Identificação: Use um colar com identificação e considere a microchipagem para ajudar a localizar seu gato caso ele se perca de casa.
“Lembre-se que assim como qualquer animal, é preciso estar atento às suas necessidades emocionais. Portanto, dê carinho e atenção, pois com certeza você receberá de volta em dobro e terá um excelente companheiro ao seu lado”, finaliza Rodrigo Brito, que também é professor e coordenador do curso de Medicina Veterinária da UniFG, instituição pertencente ao Ecossistema Ânima.
