O Indicador Criança Alfabetizada, que avalia o domínio das habilidades essenciais de leitura e escrita por alunos do 2º ano do Ensino Fundamental, funciona como um termômetro da qualidade da Educação Básica. Os números refletem tanto as práticas pedagógicas adotadas quanto os investimentos realizados desde a Educação Infantil.
A secretária municipal de Educação, Ana Cristina dos Santos Silva, tem destacado que os avanços são fruto de um esforço coletivo, construído diretamente em cada Escola da rede municipal de Ensino. Segundo ela, a formação continuada dos professores, o acompanhamento pedagógico e a avaliação sistemática da aprendizagem têm feito diferença concreta na vida das crianças.
