Desde a campanha eleitoral de 2022, o cenário político brasileiro tem sido marcado por uma escalada de tensões entre o Governo do presidente Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, seus apoiadores e a oposição, liderada principalmente pelo ex-presidente Jair Messias Bolsonaro (PL) e seus aliados. A postura mais agressiva de Jair Bolsonaro e de seus apoiadores tem provocado reações variadas, tanto de adversários quanto de aliados. Em meio a discursos mais contundentes e declarações polêmicas, que ganham destaque na mídia, o ex-presidente Jair Bolsonaro, que é réu em Processos no Supremo Tribunal Federal por tentativa de golpe de Estado, tem buscado, sem resistência – pelo contrário, com incentivo – de seus apoiadores, baixar o nível do debate político.
À medida que avançam as investigações e processos relacionados às tentativas de ruptura das Instituições — iniciadas com ocupações de áreas em frente ao Quartel General do Exército em Brasília e em outras capitais, e culminando na invasão e depredação de sedes dos três Poderes — o tom das provocações tem se intensificado, envolvendo políticos de ambos os lados.
Na última sexta-feira, 2 de maio, durante uma visita a América Dourada, onde cumpria agenda de trabalho, o governador da Bahia, Jerônimo Rodrigues Souza (PT), surpreendeu até aliados ao fazer um discurso mais incisivo, numa espécie de contrapeso ao discurso de Jair Bolsonaro em 2018, em Rio Branco (AC), ao incentivar apoiadores a “fuzilar a ‘petralhada’ aqui do Acre”. Em América Dourada, durante ato público que marcou a visita para entrega de obras na cidade, Jerônimo Rodrigues respondeu às críticas de seus opositores no Estado elevando o tom de voz e criticando a atuação do ex-presidente na pandemia de Covid-19. Ele afirmou: “Ele (Jair Bolsonaro) sorria daqueles que estavam na pandemia sentindo falta de ar. Ele vai pagar essa conta dele e quem votou nele também. Fazia no pacote. Bota uma ‘enchedeira’. Sabe o que é uma ‘enchedeira’? Uma retroescavadeira. Bota e leva tudo para a vala”.
Esse discurso mais agressivo, nunca antes visto em eventos públicos do governador, acabou por prejudicar sua imagem e alimentar ataques de seus adversários, que não tardaram a reagir. O ex-presidente Jair Bolsonaro, por exemplo, fez uma crítica irônica, referindo-se ao pronunciamento como um “discurso de ódio que pode” e dizendo que “um discurso carregado de ódio, que em qualquer cenário civilizado deveria gerar repúdio imediato e ações institucionais firmes, mas nada aconteceu”.
Internamente, opositores do Governo na Bahia também criticaram a postura de Jerônimo Rodrigues, acusando-o de tentar desviar a atenção dos problemas do Estado com uma retórica agressiva. Entre aliados, o episódio foi visto com ceticismo, considerado como “desnecessário” e uma saída do perfil ponderado e responsável que o governador costuma manter. Para aliados, a postura habitual do governador busca sempre evitar a polarização e as provocações que seus adversários usam para desviar o foco de temas essenciais como Saúde, Educação e Segurança Pública.

Reconhecendo o exagero, Jerônimo Rodrigues posteriormente se retratou, tentando minimizar o impacto de sua fala. Após quase 72 horas de silêncio, o governador adotou um tom mais moderado, pedindo desculpas e fazendo um aceno ao bom senso, à legalidade e à civilidade que devem nortear a conduta de homens públicos.
Durante o cumprimento de uma agenda de trabalho na manhã de segunda-feira, 5 de maio, em Salvador, ele afirmou aos jornalistas: “Quem me conhece sabe, eu sou uma pessoa religiosa, sou uma pessoa de família, não vou tratar qualquer opositor com esse tipo de linguagem. Foi descontextualizado”. Ele também pediu desculpas se suas palavras foram interpretadas como pejorativas, especialmente em relação ao eleitorado do ex-presidente Jair Bolsonaro, reconhecendo que termos como “vala” e “trator” foram fortes demais.
Esse episódio reforça a lição de que o discurso de ódio tem impactos profundos na sociedade, alimentando divisão, preconceito e intolerância. Uma das maiores dificuldades atuais da sociedade é equilibrar a liberdade de expressão com a responsabilidade social, promovendo um debate mais saudável e construtivo, mesmo em tempos de forte polarização política.
