Após a suspensão das atividades de Educação Básica no Complexo Penal de Brumado, a Defensoria Pública do Estado tomou a iniciativa de atuar para assegurar que os internos retomem seu direito à Educação, Capacitação e Remição de Pena.
Diante da prolongada interrupção, a 1ª Defensoria Pública de Brumado solicitou uma reunião com o prefeito Fabrício Abrantes Pires de Souza Oliveira (Avante) e a secretária municipal de Educação, Ana Cristina dos Santos Silva, com o objetivo de discutir a reintegração das atividades pedagógicas, uma vez que a responsabilidade por esses serviços é do Poder Público Municipal.
A Defensora Titular da 1ª Defensoria Pública de Brumado, Emilly Duarte Lemos, ressaltou que o principal objetivo da reunião foi buscar uma solução rápida para o impasse, que vinha violando os direitos dos presos. “Nos reunimos para restabelecer essas atividades o quanto antes. O acesso às aulas é um direito dos internos, que podem se capacitar e também obter a Remição de Pena”, afirmou.
Durante o encontro, a Administração Municipal informou que os professores já foram convocados para atuar no Complexo Penal, restando apenas alguns ajustes menores para o retorno das aulas. A justificativa apresentada para a suspensão foi dificuldades na contratação de profissionais, mas a previsão é de que a situação seja normalizada em breve.
Em março do ano passado, durante a gestão do ex-prefeito Eduardo Lima Vasconcelos (Sem Partido), a Prefeitura de Brumado assinou um Termo de Ajustamento de Conduta (TAC) com a Secretaria de Estado de Administração Penitenciária da Bahia, comprometendo-se a oferecer Educação Básica na Modalidade de Jovens e Adultos aos internos do Complexo Penal. Desde então, a Defensoria Pública Estadual tem acompanhado de perto a implementação desse acordo e atuado na mediação do processo.
A Coordenadora da 15ª Regional da Defensoria Pública do Estado da Bahia, sediada em Guanambi, Defensora Carolina Cozatti Prado, destacou que a reunião está alinhada à missão institucional da Instituição, que inclui a assistência material aos custodiados. “A Defensoria promove a Educação em Direitos não só para os apenados, mas também para as Instituições de Controle, o Poder Executivo e os Órgãos de Fiscalização. Quando identificamos que algum direito não está sendo respeitado, a Defensoria Pública Estadual exige que o Estado tome providências. Fiscalizar a efetiva implementação desses direitos faz parte do nosso papel”, frisou.
