Médico do Hospital Paulista explica até que ponto as ‘receitinhas da vovó’ são de fato eficientes para aplacar o incômodo provocado por infecções – e quando é melhor recorrer a um Especialista

Chá de hortelã, mel com limão, gargarejo com sal e até compressa quente no pescoço. Quem nunca recorreu a esses remédios caseiros diante daquela dor incômoda na garganta? Mas será que essas receitas populares funcionam mesmo — ou podem até atrapalhar a recuperação?
Segundo o Dr. Gilberto Pizarro, Otorrinolaringologista do Hospital Paulista, o uso de métodos naturais pode sim ajudar nos primeiros dias dos sintomas, desde que usados com cautela. “Nos dois a três primeiros dias da dor de garganta, quando o quadro é mais leve e geralmente viral, a hidratação, o calor local e o repouso vocal ajudam bastante”, explica. “Chás mornos, leite com canela e mel funcionam como aliados importantes, especialmente se a imunidade da pessoa estiver boa.”
Mas nem tudo que parece natural é inofensivo. “Alguns ingredientes populares na internet, como gengibre concentrado ou vinagre, são muito ácidos e podem irritar ainda mais a mucosa da garganta”, alerta o médico.
Chá, mel, limão… e cuidado com exageros
Entre os remédios caseiros mais comuns, muitos têm efeitos cientificamente explicáveis. O mel, por exemplo, forma uma película protetora sobre a garganta e tem leve ação antimicrobiana. O chá de camomila com mel, além de hidratar, acalma e ajuda a reduzir o desconforto.
Já o gargarejo com água morna e sal é um dos mais recomendados. “É seguro, simples e eficaz. O sal tem um leve efeito antisséptico e a água morna relaxa a musculatura local, ajudando no alívio da dor”, afirma Dr. Pizarro.
Por outro lado, o Especialista destaca que o exagero ou uso inadequado desses métodos pode causar o efeito contrário. “É preciso cuidado para não mascarar sintomas de infecções mais sérias, como amigdalite bacteriana, que exigem antibióticos. Se a pessoa sente dor intensa, febre alta, dificuldade para engolir ou respirar, é hora de procurar um médico.”
Quando o natural não dá conta
Embora a maioria dos casos de dor de garganta seja causada por vírus e melhore sozinha em cerca de 7 a 10 dias, há situações que merecem atenção redobrada. “Se houver travamento da boca, desidratação, dor ao engolir que impede a alimentação ou sintomas persistentes, a recomendação é buscar atendimento. Alguns quadros podem evoluir para infecções graves e até internação”, enfatiza.
Além disso, ele lembra que a dor de garganta pode ser sintoma de doenças mais sérias, como sífilis, mononucleose e até HIV. “Essas condições são melhor tratadas quando identificadas precocemente, por isso não se deve subestimar sintomas que não melhoram com o tempo.”
Prevenir é sempre melhor
Para evitar inflamações na garganta, o Dr. Pizarro reforça que hábitos simples são os mais eficazes. “Boa alimentação, hidratação adequada, lavar as mãos com frequência e evitar compartilhar objetos como copos e escovas de dente ajudam muito. Em ambientes fechados e com muitas pessoas, o risco de contágio por vírus e bactérias aumenta.”
E quando o assunto é reforço natural da imunidade, o uso de própolis e gengibre tem lugar — mas fora da crise. “Eles funcionam melhor como medidas preventivas. Podem fazer parte da alimentação do dia a dia para fortalecer o sistema imunológico.”
