Ex-Deputado Estadual e atual Conselheiro do Tribunal de Contas do Estado da Bahia, o brumadense João Evilácio Vasconcelos Bonfim foi homenageado no último dia 30 de março pela Polícia Militar da Bahia com a Medalha do Mérito Policial-Militar, a mais alta distinção concedida pela Instituição. A homenagem ocorreu em celebração ao Alferes Tiradentes (Joaquim José da Silva Xavier), Patrono das Polícias Militares do Brasil, e reconhece o apoio e o comprometimento do ex-Deputado e atual Conselheiro do TCE/BA com a Segurança Pública e a Corporação.
Durante o evento, destacou-se a importância do Conselheiro João Evilácio Vasconcelos Bonfim, que, seja no exercício do mandato parlamentar ou atualmente atuando como membro do Colegiado de Controle Externo dos Poderes Executivo, Legislativo, Judiciário e do Ministério Público, tem contribuído significativamente para a sociedade baiana. Sua atuação tem fortalecido a estrutura institucional da Polícia Militar da Bahia, promovendo melhorias nas condições de trabalho, na infraestrutura e na valorização dos profissionais da área.
A cerimônia foi realizada na Área Cívica da Vila Policial Militar do Bonfim, em Salvador, e contou com a presença de diversas autoridades, presidida pelo Comandante Geral da Polícia Militar da Bahia, Coronel PM Antônio Carlos Silva Magalhães. A entrega das honrarias foi conduzida pelo Coronel PM Anildo Rocha Batista, Assistente Militar do Tribunal de Contas do Estado da Bahia, especialmente convidado para a solenidade, que destacou a importância do reconhecimento para personalidades que contribuem para o desenvolvimento do Estado. Segundo ele, essas homenagens são destinadas àqueles que dedicam-se às causas sociais e ao aprimoramento das condições de vida da população, seguindo o exemplo de Tiradentes, Patrono da Corporação.
O Conselheiro João Evilácio Vasconcelos Bonfim expressou grande satisfação e gratidão pela homenagem, ressaltando que esse reconhecimento reforça sua convicção de estar no caminho certo e o motiva a seguir com ainda mais determinação.
Essa não foi a primeira homenagem recebida pelo brumadense. Em setembro do ano passado, João Bonfim foi agraciado com uma Placa de Reconhecimento pelos serviços prestados à Polícia Militar. Antes, em 2023, recebeu a Medalha de Amigo do Colégio da Polícia Militar Dendezeiros, uma distinção conferida àqueles que contribuem de forma significativa para o fortalecimento da Educação Militar no Estado.
A cerimônia contou ainda com a presença do vice-governador do Estado, Geraldo Alves Ferreira Júnior (MDB); do secretário de Estado de Segurança Pública da Bahia, Marcelo Werner Derschum Filho; do Comandante da 6ª Região Militar, General de Divisão André Luiz Aguiar Ribeiro; além de parlamentares e representantes da sociedade civil.

Criada pelo Decreto nº 18.312/1962 e alterada pelo Decreto nº 22.742/1972, a Medalha do Mérito Policial-Militar é a mais alta honraria da Polícia Militar da Bahia. Destinada a reconhecer militares, civis e Instituições que tenham prestado relevantes serviços à causa pública, essa condecoração valoriza aqueles que contribuem de forma significativa para o progresso e o prestígio da Corporação.
