No ano passado, a bióloga Ana Lúcia Marigo entrou em contato com alguns professores da Faculdade de Engenharia Agrícola (FEAGRI) da Unicamp com o objetivo de desenvolver doutorado sobre pesquisas de técnicas simples para a criação de insetos comestíveis que possibilitassem a produtores de pequenas comunidades aumento de renda e consequentemente melhoria das condições sociais das famílias envolvidas. Essa segunda possibilidade vinha ao encontro dos interesses futuros da docente que pretende dedicar-se a questões relacionadas à fome e à desnutrição que acometem comunidades carentes em todo o mundo. A propósito, ela lembra que a pesquisa em questão abrange propostas da Agenda 2030 e os Objetivos de Desenvolvimento Sustentável (ODS) que enfatizam a necessidade de medidas transformadoras em busca de um real desenvolvimento sustentável para a humanidade (UN, 2015). A proposta contempla principalmente os ODS que propõem acabar com a fome, garantir segurança alimentar e assegurar padrões de produção e de consumo sustentáveis.
Em decorrência do tema de doutorado as pesquisadoras propuseram-se a participar de uma oficina oferecida na primeira versão do programa Ciência e Arte dos Povos da Amazônia (CAPA), que se desenvolverá por seis semanas a partir de meados de janeiro, promovido pelas pró-reitorias de pesquisa da Unicamp e da UFPA (Universidade Federal do Pará) e pelo Santander. O CAPA traz ao campus de Campinas 20 estudantes da UFPA, oriundos de povos indígenas, quilombolas, ribeirinhos e extrativistas, para atividades de estágio, pesquisa e oficinas, além de possibilitar o contato desses alunos com a vida acadêmica através de docentes, pesquisadores e discentes da Universidade. O programa visa estimular os participantes para a pesquisa cientifica, envolvendo-os em atividades nas áreas de artes, ciências humanas, exatas e da terra, ciências biológicas e da saúde e tecnologia.
O objetivo da oficina em questão é explorar os insetos como fonte alternativa de proteínas alimentares, proporcionando aos alunos a oportunidade do aprendizado da sua criação, do seu processamento e da produção de alimentos que os utilizam e que têm potencial para tornarem-se fontes de consumo. Durante o evento os participantes ouviram uma apresentação teórica sobre os conceitos envolvendo o consumo e a criação se insetos, participaram de atividades práticas relacionadas a criação, manuseio, abate, higienização e processamento dos insetos com vistas à utilização na culinária. Concluíram as atividades executando uma receita em que insetos constituem um dos ingredientes e ao final foram convidados a degustar o prato por eles preparado. ”Pretendemos despertar nesses alunos o interesse em levar todo esse conhecimento para disponibiliza-lo em suas regiões. Esperamos que isso contribua para o enriquecimento alimentar e gere fonte de rendas alternativas para as comunidades amazônicas mais carentes, pois a criação não exige muita tecnologia, possibilitando-lhes inclusive o desenvolvimento de criações de insetos locais e o estabelecimento de novos hábitos alimentares”, enfatiza Juliana.

Juliana foi convidada para ir ao Japão como professora visitante na Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology (TUAT), onde esteve em janeiro de 2019, para dar início ao estabelecimento de convênios entre essa instituição e a Unicamp e ministrar aulas no país para alunos de graduação e pós-graduação sobre agricultura brasileira.
