A tradicional Romaria do Senhor Bom Jesus da Lapa foi oficialmente reconhecida como Manifestação da Cultura Nacional. A Lei que confere à celebração o status de Bem Cultural Imaterial do Brasil foi sancionada nesta segunda-feira (8) pelo presidente Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, após aprovação no Congresso Nacional.
Com 334 anos de história, a Romaria é considerada a mais antiga do país e a terceira maior em número de fiéis, reunindo cerca de 600 mil pessoas anualmente entre os dias 28 de julho e 6 de agosto. A origem remonta a 1691, quando o Monge Francisco de Mendonça Mar encontrou uma gruta no sertão baiano e iniciou um movimento de fé que atravessa gerações.
O reconhecimento fortalece a preservação e valorização de uma das mais expressivas manifestações religiosas e culturais do Brasil. Além do caráter espiritual, o evento tem impacto significativo na economia local, impulsionando o turismo e promovendo o reencontro de famílias e comunidades de diversas regiões do país.
Com a nova legislação, o poder público poderá implementar políticas específicas para apoiar e preservar a tradição, incluindo o registro da Romaria no Instituto do Patrimônio Histórico e Artístico Nacional (Iphan), ações culturais, melhorias na infraestrutura e segurança para os romeiros, além de estímulo ao turismo religioso.
A Romaria do Senhor Bom Jesus da Lapa já havia sido reconhecida, em 2023, como Patrimônio Cultural Imaterial da Bahia. Agora, com o reconhecimento nacional, consolida-se como símbolo da fé e da resistência cultural do povo brasileiro.
