Com aumento de casos na região, o professor Fábio Luiz Oliveira de Carvalho explica como prevenir acidentes com escorpiões e o que fazer em caso de picada

O número de acidentes envolvendo escorpiões tem crescido em diversas regiões do Brasil, inclusive na região Nordeste. Diante desse cenário preocupante, especialistas têm alertado para os riscos à saúde, sobretudo de crianças e idosos, e para a importância de medidas preventivas nas residências e espaços públicos.
Segundo o especialista em Saúde Pública, Fábio Luiz, os escorpiões são animais peçonhentos que, nos últimos anos, têm se tornado cada vez mais comuns em áreas urbanas, especialmente em locais com acúmulo de entulho, lixo e restos de materiais de construção. “É essencial conhecer seus hábitos, formas de prevenção e o que fazer em caso de acidente”, afirma Fábio, docente da Ages, instituição integrante do Ecossistema Ânima, que também é biólogo e enfermeiro, com experiência prática no atendimento a casos de urgência.
De acordo com um estudo da Universidade de São Paulo (USP), os casos de picadas de escorpiões no Brasil aumentaram em mais de 250% entre 2014 e 2023, totalizando 1.171.846 notificações no período. As projeções indicam um aumento contínuo, com estimativa de 2.095.146 casos até 2033.
No Brasil, a região Sudeste apresenta os maiores números de casos notificados entre 2014 e 2023, com 580.013 casos (49,5%), seguida pela região Nordeste, com 439.033 casos (37,5%).
Segundo o professor, esses animais se escondem com facilidade em locais escuros, úmidos e com presença de insetos, especialmente baratas, que são sua principal fonte de alimento. Os principais esconderijos incluem: pilhas de madeira, telhas e entulhos; lixo mal armazenado; ralos, frestas e buracos em paredes; sapatos, roupas e toalhas deixadas no chão; jardins com muitas folhas secas e pedras.
Para prevenir a presença desses animais próximos de casa e evitar acidentes, o biólogo recomenda manter a casa e o quintal sempre limpos e livres de entulhos; evitar o acúmulo de lixo e restos de materiais; vedar frestas em paredes, portas e janelas; instalar telas nos ralos e mantê-los sempre tampados; sacudir roupas, calçados e toalhas antes de usar; controlar a população de baratas.
Em caso de acidente, o docente faz um alerta sobre os sintomas e os primeiros socorros. “A picada de escorpião pode causar dor intensa, inchaço, vermelhidão, suor excessivo e, em casos mais graves, náuseas, vômitos e dificuldade respiratória, especialmente em crianças e idosos. O ideal é lavar o local com água e sabão, manter a pessoa calma e levá-la imediatamente ao serviço de saúde mais próximo. Nada de amarrar, espremer ou cortar a área da picada. Se possível, leve o escorpião (vivo ou morto) para ajudar na identificação da espécie”, reforça.
Para Fábio, a prevenção ainda é o melhor caminho. “Mantenha o ambiente limpo e seguro para todos. Com informação, atenção e cuidado, é possível reduzir significativamente os acidentes com escorpiões”, finaliza.
