O Pickleball, um esporte que mescla elementos do Tênis, Badminton e Ping-Pong, chegou a Brumado em 2022, graças à atleta Alessandra Câmara, que vive nos Estados Unidos e é irmã de uma residente local. Desde então, a modalidade tem atraído novos praticantes na cidade, sendo jogada com raquetes próprias, uma bola perfurada e uma rede em quadras menores que as de Tênis. Nos Estados Unidos, onde o esporte foi criado na década de 1970, o número de jogadores já supera o de tenistas.

Neste final de semana, de 4 a 6 de abril, Brumado estará representado na primeira etapa do Campeonato Baiano de Pickleball, que ocorrerá em Porto Seguro. A equipe local competirá nas categorias de Singles (individual), três Duplas Mistas (formadas por homens e mulheres) e duas Duplas Masculinas, enfrentando atletas de várias cidades da Bahia.
A modalidade continua em rápida ascensão na Bahia, e Brumado já foi escolhida como sede da segunda etapa do Campeonato Baiano, programada para os dias 16, 17 e 18 de maio. Para Luís Pedreira, Diretor Técnico da Federação Bahiana de Pickleball, a crescente popularidade do esporte se deve à sua dinâmica e acessibilidade. “O Pickleball possui um grande potencial de crescimento, pois é divertido, dinâmico e pode ser praticado por pessoas de todas as idades. Estamos observando essa expansão tanto no Brasil quanto no exterior”, enfatizou.
Em Brumado, o Pickleball pode ser jogado gratuitamente nas quadras da Fadesb (Fundação de Assistência e Desenvolvimento de Brumado), Cetib (Colégio Estadual de Tempo Integral de Brumado) e Clube Social, Cultural e Recreativo de Brumado, com materiais disponíveis para iniciantes. Existem categorias para jovens, adultos e pessoas acima de 50 anos, promovendo a participação de todas as idades.
